What if you see that the hotel already has a florist?

Entering the hotel floral market can feel daunting, especially when you discover that a hotel already has a floral provider. But don’t be discouraged—this is a common situation, and it doesn’t mean you’re out of the game. In our latest podcast episode, “What if you see that the hotel already has a florist?” we dive into how to navigate these situations with confidence and grace.

Understanding the Situation

First and foremost, seeing that a hotel has an in-house florist is not a closed door. It simply means that the hotel has found a solution for their floral needs. The key is how you approach the situation. Here’s a strategy that has worked for me:

  1. Ask the Right Questions: Politely inquire, “It looks like you already have a floral provider. May I ask when you will next be looking for new floral bids?” This question is non-intrusive and shows your interest in future opportunities without undermining their current arrangement.
  2. Gauge Satisfaction Levels: If the hotel is happy with their current florist, they might not be looking for a change. In this case, respond with something like, “I’m glad to hear you’re pleased with your florist. If it’s okay, I’d love to reach out in six months to see if anything has changed.” This keeps the door open for future possibilities, as things can change quickly in the hotel industry.
  3. Embrace the Waiting Game: Patience is key. In the hotel industry, loyalty to existing vendors is a good sign—it means they value strong partnerships. This is the type of relationship you want to build. In fact, it took me a year to land a hotel contract, but it was worth the wait.

Why This Approach Works

The hotel industry is dynamic. Management changes, budgets shift, and new directions are explored. By staying patient and building a respectful relationship, you’re positioning yourself as a professional ready to step in when the opportunity arises. It’s about being present, persistent, and prepared to offer something unique. Curious about who you should talk to when it comes to pitching? Refer back to this blog.

Conclusion

Don’t be discouraged if a hotel already has a florist. This is just part of the journey toward building your brand in the hotel floral industry.

Remember, every ‘no’ is simply a ‘not yet.’
