How to Become More Confident

When people ask me how to become more confident, I always share that confidence is simply compounded courage. It comes from the small, steady steps we take despite our fears, growing every time we show up for ourselves. Most of us want confidence to appear fully formed—like wanting a lush garden without the planting, watering, and tending. But real confidence comes from walking with fear and learning from each experience.

Today, we’re diving into the mindset and steps you can use to foster real, lasting confidence in your floral business (and beyond!). I’m sharing insights and tips that can help you shift from feeling stuck or insecure to knowing that every courageous action builds confidence.

Embrace Your Fears with Curiosity 

Fear is often seen as a roadblock, but it can actually be a guide. When you’re faced with something that scares you, like pitching to a hotel GM or asking for a sale, take a moment to acknowledge that fear instead of pushing it away. It’s natural to feel intimidated by new experiences. Think of fear as your body’s way of saying, “This is new and a bit scary, but it doesn’t mean you’re not capable.”

Ask yourself what the fear is truly about. Is it rejection? Feeling inadequate? Often, it’s not the fear of failure but the fear of humiliation. Talk to Yourself with Kindness 

Self-doubt is common, but harsh self-criticism keeps us stuck. Imagine talking to a child who’s trying something new. Would you tell them they’re bound to fail? Or would you encourage them with kindness and support? Approach yourself the same way—speak kindly, acknowledge the nerves, and remind yourself that growth is uncomfortable but incredibly rewarding.

Let yourself feel the fear and walk with it. For example, if you’re nervous about meeting a potential client, prepare your best outfit, put on a bold lipstick, and remind yourself that you’re showing up as the CEO of your company. Every small step toward bravery is a moment of courage that builds up to confidence. Use each “no” as a learning opportunity and as proof that you’re taking action, building resilience along the way.
