How a Floral Charity Transformed My Business & Community Impact

Have you ever thought about what happens to flowers after a corporate event or hotel display? As a florist, I couldn’t bear to see beautiful, fresh blooms being tossed at the end of their cycle—especially when I knew they could bring joy to others. That’s when I decided to create a floral charity organization, a nonprofit arm of my floral business, dedicated to repurposing flowers and giving back to the community.

If you’re a florist looking for ways to make a bigger impact while also setting yourself apart in the industry, this episode is for you.

Why I Started a Floral Charity Organization

Like many business owners, I had to overcome money blocks—doubts about pricing, taking on clients I wasn’t aligned with, and questioning my worth. But when I reframed my business around profit with purpose, everything shifted.

I realized: The more profitable I became, the more I could give back.

Once I landed corporate floral accounts, I saw a unique opportunity. The flowers I installed on day one were still fresh by day seven, and it felt wrong to throw them away. That’s when I created Franzie’s Flower Friends, a nonprofit branch of my floral business that allowed me to donate these flowers to local charities and community organizations.

How I Structured My Floral Charity

To make the process seamless while running a profitable business, I streamlined it into an easy-to-manage system:

1️⃣ Community Engagement: I asked my community to nominate their favorite charities, then held a public vote to select 12—one for each month.
2️⃣ Scheduled Donations: Each charity received flowers throughout their designated month, aligning with fundraising events or special initiatives.
3️⃣ Corporate Partnerships: Luxury clients like Tiffany & Co. loved participating, contributing to events and even benefiting from tax write-offs for their flower donations.
4️⃣ Competitive Edge: Offering this initiative made my floral business stand out—no other florist was helping clients save money while also giving back.

The Power of Purpose-Driven Business

Creating a floral charity was more than just giving back—it became an integral part of my brand. It:

  • Strengthened relationships with my corporate clients
  • Expanded my business visibility and reach
  • Created a deeper mission-driven approach to floral design
  • Helped me overcome my money mindset blocks by seeing profit as impact
