Have you ever dreamed of being able to travel freely while still running a profitable floral business? If you’re stuck in the mindset that your business can’t run without you, I’m here to tell you—it can. And it should.
I’ve built my floral business to allow me the freedom to travel, and in this post, I’m going to share exactly how I did it and how you can too.
The Mindset Shift: Letting Go of the “Busy” Narrative
One of the biggest challenges florists face is the belief that they have to do everything themselves. We often tie our worth to how busy we are, thinking that if we’re not constantly working, we’re not successful.
But here’s the truth: Being busy is not the same as being profitable.
When I realized that I didn’t need to personally service everything I sold, everything changed. Instead of being trapped in a business that demanded all my time, I built a team, streamlined my systems, and made travel a priority.
How to Build a Business That Allows You to Travel Freely
If you want to travel while still running a floral business, you need to replace yourself in your operations. Here’s how:
1️⃣ Create Consistent Income Streams – You need financial stability before you can step away. Hotels provide reliable, ongoing contracts that make this possible.
2️⃣ Build a Strong Team – Hire florists who can design and install while you oversee operations. I structured my team with a lead florist (who manages installs) and a runner (who assists and swaps arrangements). This is a great resource about hiring team members.
3️⃣ Systemize Everything – From ordering flowers to delivery logistics, create repeatable processes. Having contract templates, pricing guides, and clear job descriptions makes delegation seamless.
4️⃣ Use Technology to Stay in Control – My team uploads photos of every install so I can oversee everything from anywhere in the world. A shared spreadsheet keeps everything organized.
5️⃣ Negotiate Perks for Your Team – I ensure my florists have free parking at hotels, a flat day rate, and flexibility so they stay happy and committed. This reduces turnover and keeps my business running smoothly.
Proof That This Works: My Travel Journey
✅ In 2019, I traveled the world for a year while running my floral business.
✅ In 2020-2021, I lived and worked remotely from a travel trailer with my husband.
✅ In 2021-2024, I spent six months each year traveling while maintaining a profitable business.
This is 100% possible when you build a business that supports your life—not the other way around.
The Big Picture: Creating a Business That Works for YOU
At the end of the day, this isn’t just about traveling—it’s about freedom. The freedom to take a vacation without stressing about your business. The freedom to step away without everything falling apart. The freedom to live your life on your terms.
If you’re feeling stuck in your business, constantly hustling with no way to step away, I want you to know there is another way.
You can build a floral business that allows you to travel freely, work less, and earn more. But it starts with a decision—to stop doing it all yourself and start building something bigger than just you.
So, what’s stopping you? If you’re ready to create a floral business that supports your dream lifestyle, start by securing consistent income and building a strong team—and watch how everything changes.
Your dream business is waiting. It’s time to make it happen.
