How Core Beliefs Impact Confidence

Share Post

Core beliefs shape every aspect of our lives. You could have the perfect strategy and all the tools you need for success right in front of you, but if your core beliefs don’t support that strategy, you’ll constantly feel stuck. That’s why it’s essential to understand the subconscious beliefs you carry and how they affect your confidence.

In today’s post, I want to dive into how core beliefs—whether you realize it or not—can hold you back or propel you forward. I’ll share personal stories, mindset shifts, and actionable steps you can take to align your beliefs with your goals, ensuring that you step into your highest potential with confidence. If you want to tune into the full podcast episode on this, you can access that here.

What Are Core Beliefs?

Core beliefs are the subconscious thoughts that dictate how we show up in the world. These beliefs are often inherited—whether from family, society, or past experiences. Over time, we begin to identify with them without even realizing it. The problem? These core beliefs can hold us back.

For example, you might identify as a people pleaser or someone who gets nervous about advocating for yourself. But here’s the thing: these beliefs aren’t set in stone. They aren’t truths about who you are; they’re just beliefs you’ve carried for so long that they’ve started to feel like truths.

The first step in shifting these beliefs is becoming aware of them. Ask yourself, “Isn’t it interesting that I believe this about myself?” Once you approach your core beliefs with curiosity rather than judgment, you can begin to rewrite them.

How Core Beliefs Impact Confidence

When I decided to write my memoir, it wasn’t the logistics or strategy that felt overwhelming—it was the emotional journey. It took me two years, and throughout that time, I faced intense self-doubt. I questioned whether anyone would care about my story and whether I had the confidence to follow through.

But here’s the truth: your core belief has the power to either fuel your confidence or keep you stuck. For me, it was about shifting my belief from “I’m not confident because I’m afraid of being vulnerable” to “I can do hard things, and even though I feel fear, I’m moving forward.”

Confidence doesn’t come from having everything figured out—it comes from showing up despite the doubt. The best lessons I have learned have come from taking risks and taking action.

Rewriting Your Core Beliefs

Changing core beliefs requires you to take an honest inventory of the stories you’re telling yourself. Just because you’ve always been a people pleaser doesn’t mean you have to stay that way.

One belief I’ve carried throughout my journey is, “Feelings are not facts.” It’s okay to feel nervous, afraid, or unsure—but that doesn’t mean you’re incapable. The moment you allow yourself to push past these feelings and act anyway is the moment you begin to rewrite those outdated core beliefs.

If your core belief is, “I don’t feel confident because I’m new at this,” add the word “and.”

  • “I don’t feel confident and I’m investing in myself.”
  • “I don’t feel confident and I’m showing up and learning every day.”

These small shifts in language can create massive shifts in how you see yourself.

Conclusion

Your core beliefs hold immense power over your life. They dictate whether you feel confident, capable, and worthy of success. But here’s the good news: you are in control of these beliefs. When you begin to question them, challenge them, and rewrite them, you’ll find yourself stepping into a new version of yourself—one that’s confident, empowered, and ready to take on the world.

Remember, your desires are simply memories from the future. Trust in the process and allow your beliefs to evolve as you grow. It’s time to align your core beliefs with the future you’re building.
